Stay Cool at Lillan

The wonderful heat wave just continues to linger at Finland. The temperature stays above 30 celsius degrees.

They’ve given a lot of common sense instructions how to keep the not-air-conditioned houses at reasonable temperatures. To keep windows and doors open at night and tightly shut with curtains down by daytime.

At Lillan it’s a bit different, though. Do keep all the windows and doors open at daytime, as well. The breeze from the sea is continuous and cooling. Let it swipe it’s refreshing touch through Lillan ❤️

Almost Summer

Today you could already sense the summer feeling ❤ Yes, a bit chilly but still.

The way the sun glimmered on the sea and the gulls shrieked was just so summery.

After the long, dark and cold winter it’s more than welcomed feeling.

Yep, so be it. And just how wonderful that is!

Winter View

Ever-changing. Always something new. I’ve seen this view at least a billion times and it never ceases to amaze me. It seizes my heart and soul. It captures something deep in me.

Even now, when thin mist creeps from the Archipelago sea and the view is very non-colourful, there is something amazing in it. The pulse of life is there, waiting for spring. Now not hibernating but facing the winter, snow, wind and ice. Knowing and accepting it.

How can I not but to love and admire such?

Amazing Winter Sunset

Sun was already setting when I was on my way to Lillan. Decided to take a detour since the view look promising. It was definitely worth it.

When I made my way to Lillan, the sunset was there at this very familiar place also stunning.

Even Lillan itself was painted by sunset.

And the interior, then. Did not want to put the lights on since the colours coming outside were just amazing.

All these pics are with #nofilter. Just as it was.

Took even a short video from the shore. I hope you’ll come soon to see yourself these wonderful views!

All Hallow’s Eve Preparations

Children have had so many Halloween parties! For me, and many especially older Finns, this day is a memorial day for those who have passed away. Candle lights, warm memories. Peace and quiet. But for children, it’s mostly trick or treat 🦇🍅

One night for full moon at Friday. Darn me not having my proper camera with me at Lillan!

Can you tell the difference between street lights and the moon?

Even drove to the harbour to try to get a better pic. Well, at least a bit different view.

This little picture gives a hint of the preparations for this weekend at Lillan. When everything is ready, I’ll tell more❤️

Star Gazing

I’ve already told you about possibility to see Northern Lights at Kimito Islands. They are always a bit luck dependent – you might see them or then you might not, mostly depending on the mood of the Sun and it’s activity.

But one thing that’s for sure are the stars. Not so common a thing to see in a big city or thickly populated country. But here, they are like every night, unless it’s very cloudy. Best to be seen when it’s darker season, that is autumn or winter.

You can just step outside from the door when the sun has gone down. But to make most of it, you can go to the beach. There, above the sea, there are no lights to disturb the perfect star gazing experience.

Do you want to see Milky Way? To spot your own Wish Upon a Star?

Welcome to stay at Lillan and take your own Star Tour!

Northern Lights

img_3764

It is a common misbelief that you can see Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) only above the polar circle.

They are everywhere. Obviously, closer to the poles you go more common they are since there the earth’s magnetic field does not protect us from these amazing particles as well.

Northern lights can be seen even at Kimito Islands, as these wonderful pictures show. They were taken in the evening on a island shore.

To see the Northern lights, the most important thing is darkness. Hence, they show well above the sea since there is even less light waste around. During nighttime, our islands are very dark, totally undisturbed by city lights, compared to most other areas in Europe.

Best time of year to see the Northern lights is when it’s darker. That is, autumn or winter. Welcome to stay at Lillan and witness the amazing, wonderful

Northern lights!

All the pictures in this post are taken at November. From September to October autumn foliage is amazing. For November, the magical light surrounds everything. And by December there is often already a thin snow cover.

And Lillan, of course, is warm and cozy all year round. As the days get shorter, the hygge of Lillan just amplifies.

Welcome to Lillan!

A house by the sea shore?

The title on the Lillan home page, "little house on the ocean shore" has brought up some discussion.

Many of my very well English speaking friends have told me the Baltic Sea to be a sea, not an ocean.

They have also noticed that since Lillan is not located directly on the shore, I should use BY instead. To tell the massive 40 meters distance from the shore.

I know my English is not always impeccable. Thus I truly appreciate all comments to improve my language and to use the correct words.

But about the subject line. I have thought it through, even very much so.

I know the view you have from Lillan is definitely not an ocean one, hardly even sea since there are so many islands on the archipelago area.

But still. It is water connected to all oceans of this globe. I love the idea that by the tiny sea in front of Lillan you can have access to any continent of our world.

Once I had this dream I took off from Lillan shore with a beautiful wooden sailing boat to visit the world's most wonderful place. It was almost at the other side of the globe. Maybe that dream can fulfill some day.

About the preposition then. Lillan was set on its nowadays place year 1730 when it was relocated from the island Hitis where it was built some tens of years before.

At year 1730 it was ON a sea shore. In those almost 300 years the land has arisen (yes, ice age effects here still) and there has even been some landfill in front of Lillan. Thus today the more correct preposition would be by.

Lillan's official name is Lilla Strandbyggnaden, the small beach building. Because then it was at the beach.

Somehow I just wanted the history of the house to show even on the headlines. I truly apologize if someone feels therefore being mislead.

So. For me, Lillan is truly a house on the ocean shore ❤

After the storm

August storm, couple of years ago. After heavy rain Mother Nature served her best in a bit different form. Couldn’t believe my eyes for these beautiful views at Dalsbruk harbor. Have a walk with me and enjoy the scenery! #nofilter
